Executive C-suite furniture often features exotic wood veneers, imported Italian marble, or tempered acoustic glass. These pieces are not just expensive — they are frequently one-of-a-kind or no longer in production, so damage during a move cannot be "replaced." Handling them correctly is a craft, not a chore.
Wood Veneer and Lacquered Finishes
Veneers scratch easily and check along the grain when exposed to dry air or temperature swings. Wrap executive desks in quilted furniture blankets and shrink the blanket — never the wood — so the finish can breathe. Move in a climate-controlled truck, and never stage the piece in a loading dock where winter air will crack the veneer in an hour.
Marble and Stone Conference Tops
Stone tops are fragile in two specific ways: they crack under their own weight when carried flat, and they stain if the underside contacts packing material that is not acid-free. Move stone tops on edge, in a custom crate, with foam cradles at the quarter points. Never set a marble top on a blanket on the floor — the weight will split the stone at the first stress line.
Tempered Glass and Acoustic Panels
Frameless glass doors and acoustic partitions travel in dedicated glass carts with rubber-lined channels. Tempered glass does not crack — it shatters — so the handling standard is zero edge contact. If a piece is unusually large, the mover should recommend a custom crate rather than risk a blanket wrap.
Leather and Upholstered Seating
Italian leather executive chairs are bagged in stretch wrap and stood upright — never laid on their side where the cylinder leaks or the leather creases. Reupholstered pieces should be tagged with the reupholsterer's contact information so a touch-up is a phone call, not a re-order.
For executive-suite moves, hire a mover whose crew includes furniture handlers — not just general labor — and ask to see the quilted blankets and glass carts on the walk-through. The quality of the equipment predicts the quality of the move.
